Accent Energy Partners With Customers, Matching Donations Made To Relief Efforts After Haitian Earthquake Disaster

Dublin, Ohio - Friday, January 15, 2010 - Accent Energy, an independent provider of electricity, natural gas and green power, is contributing to the global aid effort mounted by companies, agencies and individuals in the aftermath of the earthquake that occurred in Haiti on January 12, 2010. Accent Energy will match each dollar, up to a total of $50,000, donated to relief efforts by its residential customers in the New York Con Edison service territory, providing much-needed funds to a population in desperate need of food, clothing and shelter.
A powerful earthquake shook the nation at approximately five p.m. on Tuesday, January 12. Measuring 7.0 on the Richter scale, the quake destroyed countless buildings and severely interrupted the infrastructure of the country. The Red Cross fears that up to 100,000 may have lost their lives in the immediate devastation and that three million have been "affected" trying to survive without basic necessities, including food, water and medical care. A series of strong aftershocks have complicated relief efforts and made a bad situation even worse.
"Our largest concentration of customers lives in New York City, which is also home to the largest population of those of Haitian descent outside of Port-au-Prince," said Lance Schneier, chairman and CEO, Accent Energy. "We want to do our part to assist them by aiding their families and friends in Haiti."
